Wincanton Master Swimmers swoop medal haul at British Championships
The British Masters Swimming Championships took place at the Welsh National pool in Swansea on the 14th -16th June. Four swimmers from Wincanton Swimming Club attended the championships and came back with 16 medals between them. Philippa O’Grady won gold in both the 200 BR/S and Butterfly and silver in the 200I/M and 100 Butterfly in her respective age group. Adele Parham won silver medals in the 200 F/S, 200 Butterfly, 400 F/S and 400 I/M in her respective age group. John Anderson won gold in both the 100 and 200 BR/S and silver in the 50 BR/S in his age group. Paul Partington won silver on the 50 F/S and Bronze in the 50 Butterfly, 200 I/M, 200 F/S and 200 BK/S. The swimmers who train at the Wincanton Leisure Centre and the Oxley Sports Centre in Sherborne, now work towards the Masters Nationals which will take place in Sheffield at the end of October. Several will also be hoping to head to Budapest for the European Masters in June 2020. Philippa O’Grady said “Master swimming is becoming more and more popular. It’s a great way to stay fit, make great friends and compete at various levels to suit you. The oldest competitor taking part at the championships was 91 years old!
