Wincanton Masters triumph at the 16th Royal Navy Open Meet
21 swimmers from the Wincanton Masters squad competed at the annual event held at Millfield pool on the 12th March. The swimmers, whose ages range from 30 to 77 competed in a total of 120 events at the meet. As well as winning copious amounts of golds, silvers and bronzes, five members of the team won best overall swimmer in their age group awards. Jaki Farrell in the 40-44 age group, Philippa O'Grady 45-49 age group, Adele Parham 50-54 age group, Val Regan 60-64 age group and Paul Partington in the 65-69 age group. This year the Royal Navy named the top visiting team trophy in memory of former Wren, master swimmer, and Wincanton masters coach Lindsay Lant, who sadly passed away in December. The team went with the aim of winning the trophy and came away triumphant. Philippa O'Grady (Lindsay's daughter) says "I am hugely proud of the whole team who turned out in force to compete for the trophy, some of whom have not swum in competition for a very long time! Mum would have been deeply humbled and honoured that the Royal Navy named a trophy after her and that we managed to win it, in its inaugural year."
