28 Feb 25: Somerset County Championships - 2025. Swimmers from Wincanton SC performed brilliantly at this year's County Championships, held at Millfield throughout Jan and Feb. This year saw record results for Wincanton, with more swimmers from the club qualifying for this year's event than ever before. Over a busy few weekends, dozens of new PBs, medals and fantastic experiences capped a well organised and fun event. We thank the organisers at Somerset ASA as well as the Officials, Coaches, Parents and Volunteers. 15 Dec 24: Wincanton have a tree-mendous time at the YDSC Christmas Open Meet. Wincanton's team of 28 Swimmers made a splash at this year's Yeovil District Swim Club Christmas Meet, held at Millfield on 14-15 Dec. Our strong team of swimmers achieved medals aplenty, gained new 'Personal Best' times and had great fun with the 'Christmas games' at the event. 16 Sep 24: Wincanton's Masters excel at Devon County Masters Meet. On Sunday Sep 15th, Wincanton Swimming Club’s Masters team achieved outstanding results at the Devon County Masters Meet, held at the Plymouth Life Centre. Competing against 36 teams, Wincanton finished in 9th place overall, with numerous personal bests (PBs) and medal-winning performances across the board. Peter Long led the charge with an incredible haul of gold medals, taking first place in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke (PB), 200m Freestyle (PB), and 100m Freestyle. Philippa O’Grady also dominated her events, securing gold in the 50m Backstroke (PB), 50m Breaststroke (PB), and 400m Individual Medley (PB). Emma Harris put in a stellar performance with a personal best in the 50m Backstroke, earning silver, alongside a bronze in the 50m Freestyle, silver in the 50m Breaststroke, and gold in the 100m Breaststroke. Nikki Hopkins shone with PBs in all her events, capturing silver in the 50m Freestyle, and gold in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Adelle Kirby claimed bronze in the 100m Backstroke (PB), silver in the 50m Breaststroke, and silver in the 100m Freestyle, with a PB in the latter. Adele Parham rounded off the team's success with golds in the 200m Individual Medley (PB), 100m Individual Medley (PB), and 100m Freestyle (PB). The Wincanton Masters’ incredible medal count and top-10 finish highlight their commitment, teamwork, and established reputation in Masters swimming. 13 Jul 24: Wincanton Shines in Jurassic League 2024, Secures Best Finish in Five Years. Wincanton Swimming Club celebrated a remarkable achievement by securing 3rd place in this year’s Jurassic League, marking their best result in five years. The competition, which brings together swim clubs from across the Somerset and Dorset region, was filled with outstanding performances and strong team spirit. Wincanton’s success was fuelled by impressive individual and team efforts. Ten-year-old swimmers Liberty and Arthur set the tone early, winning the first two events of the competition. The Boys' 14 and under Relay team also delivered a thrilling victory in the 4x25m Freestyle at Oxley. Notable individual performances include Tabitha, who claimed first place in the Girls 12 and under 50m Butterfly at Oxley, and followed up with another 2 firsts in the 50m Fly at Bridport in round 3 and 4. Noah continued the winning streak with first-place finishes in the Boys 12 and under 50m Backstroke at Oxley and both Bridport events. Arthur was another standout, dominating the Boys 10 Years and under category with first-place wins in both the 25m Breaststroke and 25m Fly at both Bridport galas. Ralph and Seely also secured victories in their respective events. The competition saw numerous highlights, including a commendable effort by Wincanton’s youngest boys against much older competitors in the 16 & under 4x25m Freestyle relay at Weymouth. The entire team demonstrated exceptional swimming and teamwork, making this year’s Jurassic League a memorable one for Wincanton Swimming Club. 16 Jun 24: Wincanton Swimmers Shine at City of Wells Open Meet Wincanton Swimming Club made a splash at the City of Wells Open Meet, held on 15-16 June, with 14 talented swimmers participating in 48 events. For many, it was a thrilling opportunity to experience racing in an Olympic-length 50-meter pool for the first time. The team delivered a series of standout performances, with several swimmers earning podium finishes. Tabitha led the charge in the Girls 11 Year Olds category, securing 3rd place in the 200 Meter Individual Medley, along with 1st place finishes in both the 50 Meter and 100 Meter Butterfly. In the Boys 15 Year Olds category, Toby C impressed with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Meter Backstroke, and 3rd place in both the 50 Meter Butterfly and 200 Meter Backstroke. He also clinched 1st place in the 50 Meter Breaststroke. Toby R made his mark in the Boys 9 Year Olds 50 Meter Butterfly, earning a 3rd place finish, while Arthur claimed 3rd place in the Boys 10 Year Olds 50 Meter Butterfly and took home 1st place in the 50 Meter Breaststroke. Noah also had a strong showing, finishing 3rd in the Boys 12 Year Olds 100 Meter Freestyle. Beyond the podium, there were numerous personal bests (PBs) achieved by Issie, Alice, Martha, Sophie, Lola, Libby, Emma, and Daisy, showcasing the depth of talent and dedication within the team. The event was a testament to the hard work and team spirit of Wincanton Swimming Club, with top performances and excellent teamwork on display throughout the competition. 30 Apr 24: Swim England SW Regional Championships Success for WSC We're really proud of our Swimmers from Wincanton, who qualified for, and competed at the 2024 Swim England South West Regional Championships on 19 and 25 Apr. Billy and Tabitha swam brilliantly against the region's finest talent - Well done to them. 31 Mar 24: YDSC Spring Fling - 2024 Our team of 14 swimmers had a fantastic Easter weekend at the YDSC Spring Fling held at Millfield on 30 - 31 Mar. For Ina and Toby R, this was the first taste of participating in a licenced Meet. Both performed brilliantly in their races, with Ina taking 12 seconds off her 100 IM time, and 11 seconds off her 50 Fly. Toby also swam outstandingly, taking 10 seconds off his previous PB for 100 IM. Also competing: Noah took over 8 seconds off his IM time and won Silver in the 50 Breaststroke; Billy also won Silver in the 50 Breaststroke; Alice gained PBs in all 3 of her races; Tabitha won Gold in 100 IM, Silvers in the 50 Back & 50 Fly and Bronze in 200 IM; Toby C won Silver in the 50 Back and 200 IM; Tom took over 2 seconds off his 50 Free PB and 4 seconds off his 50 Fly; Chloe bettered her 100 IM time by an astounding 12 seconds and bettered her 50 Back & 50 Breaststroke PBs; Lily H gained PBs in the 50 Fly and 100 Breaststroke; Issie won Bronze in the 50 Breaststroke; Sophie bettered her 50 Free time by an amazing 9.25 seconds; Libby also gained PBs in all her events, including 11 seconds in the 100 IM; and Daisy gained 2 PBs including a fantastic 13 second improvement in the 100 Free. To cap-off a successful weekend, the club saw Toby C, Billy and Tabitha secure Regional Championships Qualifying Times with their inspiring swims. Well done to you all! 17 Mar 24: Somerset County Championships - 2024 Wincanton Swimming Club’s swimmers excelled at the Somerset ASA County Championships, held at Millfield from 24 Feb to 17 Mar. Our qualifying swimmers competed in events throughout the championships, with Billy, Tabitha, Hannah, Tom, Sophie and Issie swimming brilliantly to achieve new Personal-Best times. Sophie won Gold for 50 Breaststroke and Tabitha earned Bronze in 50 Fly. Brilliant swimming! 18 Feb 24: Royal Navy Masters Open Meet 2024 Wincanton’s Masters had an amazing day at the Royal Navy Open Masters Meet at Millfield School on Sun 18 Feb 24. Amongst a highly competitive field of Service and Swim Clubs from across the country, the Wincanton team came 2nd place – a fantastic achievement, underlining Wincanton’s strength in Masters Swimming. Wincanton came 1st in the Female, Male and Mixed 200 Fr Relays. Gold Medals were also won by: Paul Partington (400 Fr, 200 Fr, 100 Br), Phillipa O’Grady (100 Fly, 50 Br, 100 Br, 100 Fr), Adele Parham (50 Bk, 100 Bk, 50 Fr), Simon Emery (50 Bk, 100 Bk), Tim Bennetto (50 Bk, 100 Bk, 50 Fr, 100 Fr), Jaki Farrell (100 IM), Beatrice Lever (50 Fr), Peter Long (100 Fr, 200 Fr), Nikki Hopkins (100 Br) and John Anderson (100 Br). Well done to a great team! 1 Oct 23: Somerset ASA County Development Meet 23 Wincanton Swimming Club excelled at this year’s Somerset ASA County Development Meet, held on 30 Sep – 1 Oct. Over the two-day competition Wincanton entered a medal winning team against the biggest clubs from across Somerset. Swimmers gained massive personal best times in 42 of the events entered, with Sophie winning 2 gold medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, Billy, Tom and Ralph winning silver medals in the 100m breaststroke, 50m fly and the 50m breaststroke respectively and Noah, Tabitha, Toby and Isabelle winning bronze medals in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. For many in the Wincanton team, this was the first competitive swim meet entered, with all swimmers enjoying the event and the participation. Well done to all our swimmers. 4 Jun 23: 'Superfast' Wincanton Swimmers Excel in the Heat - Superfast-5 Swim Meet 2023 Swimmers from Wincanton enjoyed competing in the 'Superfast 5' swim meet held at Millfield. This 'sprint meet' pitted the fastest swimmers in the county against each other in a sequence of 50m sprint races in all strokes plus a 100IM. All of our swimmers managed to bag superb personal-best times in multiple events, with special congratulations to our 'Skins' finalist, Tabitha, and to Emma for storming to victory in her 'Hot Heat'. With thanks to the event organisers and parents for a great day... 10 Mar 23: Masters Team Victorious at the Royal Navy Open Meet - 2023 A team from Wincanton Swimming Club achieved outstanding success at the 20th Royal Navy Masters Open meet at Millfield School on Sunday 26th February 2023. The event organised by the Royal Navy Swimming Association is open to Masters (swimmers who are over 18) from across the UK, having become one of the leading events in the Master swimming calendar. 16 swimmers from Wincanton’s Masters squad attended the meet to compete for the Lindsay Lant trophy. The trophy, awarded to the most successful visiting club, holds particular meaning for Wincanton, as it’s named after the Masters swimming world champion Lindsay Lant who was a much-loved coach at Wincanton Swimming Club. Lindsay’s daughter, Philippa, led Wincanton team at this year’s event, saying: “it’s always a very emotional meet for us as Mum was not only a very successful Masters swimmer and a serving member of the Royal Navy, but was a dedicated coach for many years, giving her time and expertise to help all in the Masters’ community. I always encourage as many of Wincanton’s swimmers to compete at this event. This year, we were delighted that the team incorporated so many new club swimmers who wanted to be part of our fun and inclusive team.” Wincanton’s swimmers put their all into the individual and relay events, coming away with 33 Gold, 22 Silver and 19 Bronze medal places. 5 Wincanton swimmers also won overall best swimmer in their respective age groups, these being: Luke Elam, Philippa O’Grady, Adele Parham, Simon Emery and Paul Partington. As a result, Wincanton were overwhelmed to win the Top Visiting Team trophy with a huge 108-point margin. Well done to all who swum on the day. 20 Feb 23: Somerset County Championships - 2023 Swimmers from Wincanton Swimming Club performed brilliantly at the Somerset ASA County Championships, held at Millfield from 22 Jan to 12 Feb. WSC swimmers who qualified went on to compete in dozens of events at the championships, with Billy, Tabitha, Alicia, Sophie, Ferne and Issie swimming fantastically to achieve new Personal-Best times. In the Junior events Billy and Tabitha delivered outstanding swims to achieve finals places and a medal for Tabitha in the 50m Breaststroke. From WSC's Masters squad, Philippa O'Grady, Adele Parham and Paul Partington also competed (showing the youngsters how it's done - or was it the other way around 😉). Paul Partington did especially well, winning Gold in the 800m freestyle. Brilliant swimming! 11 Dec 22: YDSC Christmas County-Qualifier Meet - 2022 Wincanton Swimming Club were excited to compete at the Yeovil District Swim Club's Christmas Meet, held at Millfield on 11th Dec 22. All our swimmers achieved new 'Personal Best' times at the event, with Medals achieved for Tabitha (Silver in 100IM), Alicia (Bronze in 50 Back) and Hannah (Silver in 50 & 100m Back, and Bronze in 200 Back & 200 Breast). 2 Oct 22: Somerset County Development Meet - 2022 Wincanton Swimming Club took a strong team to this year's Somerset County Development Meet, held at Millfield on 1-2 Oct. All of WSC's swimmers gave it their all, with many competing a licenced Swim-Meet for the first time. On day one, Alice, Billy, Tabitha, Chloe, Lilly, Alicia, Sophie, Rosie, Ferne, Daisy and Emma swam fantastically to achieve Personal-Best times across several events - with Ferne achieving a Gold medal in the 50m Breaststoke. On day two, our older swimmers, including Beth, Kirsten, Samuel, Isabelle, Amelia and Scarlett also swam well with personal bests achieved - with Scarlett and Isabelle gaining medals for 50m Back (Silver) and 200m Breaststroke (Bronze) respectively. Awesome swimming! 31 Jul 22: Jurassic League - 2022 Wincanton Swimming Club competed in the Jurassic League throughout the Summer of 2022. Comprised of local swim clubs from across the Somerset and Dorset region, the Jurassic League saw excellent swimming and team-spirit from all clubs taking part. Stellar swimming from WSC saw victories in numerous events, including massive wins for our Girls Relay Teams in the '10yrs-and-under', 13-14yrs and 15-16yrs categories. Not to be outdone, our boys all performed stunningly with special mentions to Billy, Reuben and Archie for filling in some gaps in older age group races. Top swimming & top teamwork! 21 May 22: WSC Jurassic League, Oxley - 2022 Wincanton Swimming Club is hosting the first Gala of the 2022 Jurassic League on 21 May 22. Plus a big shiny silver medal for Billy and a Bronze for Hannah. 31 Oct 21: Somerset County Development Meet - 2021 Swimmers from Wincanton Swimming Club took part in the 2021 'Somerset County Development Meet' held at Weston-Super-Mare. In the younger age groups, fantastic swimming from Billy (10) and Lily (12) saw both achieve massive PBs, and in the older teenage categories Beth, Issie, Amelia and Archie all scored massive PBs, with 1 medal (well done Archie)! 21 Sep 21: Somerset Community Foundation - Grant Award to WSC
We're really excited to confirm that Somerset Community Foundation have awarded Wincanton Swimming Club a significant grant to support the training of young coaches and to buy additional training equipment.
